India to procure Russian coal through Iran: reports
India plans to bring in coking coal from Russia and Central Asia through Iran's Chabahar port by late fiscal year 2025 (FY25), according to local press reports.
This move aims to find a cheaper alternative to the current Red Sea route which is seeing a crisis due to geopolitical tensions.
India’s increasing imports of Russian-origin coking coal and a recent Indian investment of $120 million in Chabahar port highlight this shift, notes Kallanish.
