Hebei province steel profits soar in 2016
The steel industry in China’s Hebei province saw profits last year increase 67% year-on-year, according to the provincial Bureau of Statistics. This year Hebei aims to cut 19.86 million tonnes/year of steel capacity, but with relatively strong cash flow and profits, steelmakers are incentivised to keep output high, Kallanish notes.
