Hebei trails national rate on steel capacity cuts
China’s Hebei province has eliminated 2.69 million tonnes/year of steel and 3.1m t/y of iron capacity in the first five months of 2017, says the provincial deputy director of Environmental Protection Administration Yang Zhiming. Official data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows Hebei’s crude steel output was down -0.13% year-on-year over January to April, Kallanish notes.
