General Motors plans to inject $40 million into its Pontiac Stamping Plant in Pontiac, Michigan, as part of its continued push for total vehicle electrification.

“The investment will be used to renovate the existing facility, and install new, highly flexible fabrication machinery and presses to support future electric vehicle production and various product applications,” Kallanish learns from a GM release.

The renovation is slated to begin immediately. The so-called “Flex Fab” technology to be installed in the plant will drastically decrease future retooling requirements for the plant as the company pushes further into the electric vehicle arena.

GM has been touting an “all-electric future” for the company and has invested heavily - both in terms of facilities and R&D via its Ultium drivetrain - toward that end.

"This investment will bring the latest in flexible, sheet metal fabrication technology to the Pontiac team," says GM vice president of North America manufacturing and labour relations Phil Kienle. “Our manufacturing capabilities create a competitive advantage for GM, and I am confident the team at Pontiac Stamping will continue delivering excellence in all areas of the business as they deploy this new equipment.”
