Global Steel Users PMI signals deteriorating market
The IHS Markit Global Steel Users’ Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) recovered somewhat in August compared with July. It has continued to remain below 50 however, indicating that activity in the sector continues to deteriorate, Kallanish notes.
The August PMI was 49.5, the highest registered in 2019 so far, but has remained below 50 for the eleventh consecutive month. Any reading below 50 signals a contraction in activity.
