German steel industry casts doubt on coal phase-out
The German federal government on Wednesday passed the law on the country’s projected exit from coal-based power generation by 2038.
Two weeks ago already, the government announced the results of the agreement struck between federal and regional leaders, which includes a compensation budget of roughly €40 billion ($45 billion). The compensation will be directed to utilities, miners and other companies most affected by the shutdown.
