Vietnam sets Formosa fish-death fine at $500m
Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Group may be forced to pay a $500 million fine after Vietnamese authorities finally confirmed that wastewater from its new Ha Tinh steelworks caused mass fish deaths over recent months. The fine is the latest blow to the potentially game-changing steelworks which was recently forced to delay full start-up of its first blast furnace, Kallanish notes.
