Eurofer cuts consumption growth forecast following first-quarter slump
EU apparent steel consumption in the first quarter slumped 11.7% on-year to 34.5 million tonnes, leading Eurofer to lower its full-year 2023 forecast to a 3% decline, from the previous 1% drop. However, a more pronounced rebound is expected in 2024 – 6.2% growth versus the earlier forecasted 5.4% – if positive conditions for steel demand materialise, the steelmakers’ association says.
