Esco restarts DRI plant, reconsiders pig iron exports
Esfahan Steel (Esco) has restarted its “Tarhe Ghaem” direct reduced iron plant to produce alternative feedstock for its oxygen converter, a company source tells Kallanish.
Esco, Iran’s sole blast furnace-based steelworks, uses a proportion of scrap in its steelmaking feedstock mix which consists mainly of pig iron. However, DRI is currently cheaper to produce and use in the converter than scrap, the source says. The DRI plant has a 200,000 tonn…
