Esco restarts DRI plant, reconsiders pig iron exports

Esfahan Steel (Esco) has restarted its “Tarhe Ghaem” direct reduced iron plant to produce alternative feedstock for its oxygen converter, a company source tells Kallanish. Esco, Iran’s sole blast furnace-based steelworks, uses a proportion of scrap in its steelmaking feedstock mix which consists mainly of pig iron.
