European Commission officially commences safeguard review
The European Commission has officially opened an investigation into the possible extension beyond June 2021 of existing safeguard measures.
The investigation was started following a request by 12 EU member states. Steelmakers and Eurofer have widely been lobbying for safeguard measures to be maintained, while associations representing users and distributors have called for them to be allowed to expire in June as originally planned, Kallanish notes.
