Demand crisis forces AST layoffs, production cuts
According to trade union sources who spoke to Kallanish, Italy’s Acciai Speciali Terni (AST), part of Germany’s thyssenkrupp, is temporarily laying off workers at its stainless steel plant in Terni.
“This remains a means for companies in Italy to save on workforce costs and when a crisis of demand is looming, they tend to use all tools available to save,” a trade union source comments.
