Chip shortage, Omicron hamper Spanish automotive production
Spain’s carmaking sector remained stagnant in January, Kallanish notes. The global semiconductor shortage and economic uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 Omicron variant has seriously affected demand, according to national automotive association Anfac. The microchip crisis is likely to persist in the short term.
Production and exports both fell in January, while local manufacturers implemented some adjustments at their lines, Anfac observes.
