Chinese scrap slumps on weaker consumption
China's scrap market fell last week as the steel market collapsed. Since March, Jiangsu Shagang, the leading scrap steel buyer, has announced four consecutive reductions in scrap purchase prices totalling CNY 200/t.
On Friday, Kallanish assessed 6mm+ heavy scrap delivered to mills in eastern China's Yangtze River Delta at CNY 2,700/tonne ($375/t), including VAT. This is CNY 31/t lower from Thursday and down CNY 163/t from a week before.
