China’s May steel output rises but demand falling
China produced 70.5 million tonnes of crude steel in May, 1.8% more than in May 2015, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Production rates were still down from April and demand was down even faster, Kallanish notes.
Over January-May, crude steel production was still down -1.4% year-on-year to 329.95mt, NBS said. This was only after an apparent downward revision of steel production over January-April of almost 2mt, however.
