China surge drives first-half scrap consumption growth
Scrap consumption grew in most major steelmaking regions in the first half of 2018, with a significant surge recorded in China, according to Rolf Willeke, Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) statistics advisor.
Scrap use for crude steelmaking in China soared 41% on-year in H1 to 87.7 million tonnes when crude steel output in the country rose 6% to 451.16mt.
