China plans 3,453km of rail for new northern urban area
China has laid out preliminary proposals for a new urban rail network linking Beijing, Tianjin and parts of Hebei province which could see 3,453km of new light rail lines built over the next 35 years. The plan suggests Beijing has no intention of reducing its infrastructure investments even as it rebalances China’s economy towards domestic consumption, Kallanish notes.
