China leads scrap consumption, top importers increase intake
Scrap consumption grew in most major steelmaking regions in the nine months through 2018, with a significant surge recorded in China, according to Rolf Willeke, Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) statistics advisor.
Scrap use for crude steelmaking in China surged 39% on-year in the nine months to 140.6 million tonnes, underlying China’s position as the world’s largest steel scrap user, Willeke says in a report sent to Kallanish.
