Brazil’s monthly steel trade surplus widens sequentially
Brazil remained a net exporter of steel in May. The country’s trade surplus was almost 393,000 tonnes in the month, an increase of 35% versus April but down 43.7% year-on-year, Kallanish notes.
The trade surplus for the first five months of 2024 reached 1.93 million tonnes, compared with 3.22 million tonnes in January-May 2023. The reduction is mainly driven by 16% weaker exports on-year.
