Brazil’s May pig iron market recovers, prices stable
Brazilian pig iron production and exports increased month-on-month in May, Kallanish notes.
According to data from the local steelmakers’ association Instituto Aço Brasil (IAB), May’s pig iron output was 2.11 million tonnes, an increase of 19,000t or 0.8% m-o-m. This volume, however, was 3.8% weaker year-on-year, IAB data show. Production in the first five months of 2024 amounted to 10.68mt or 0.4% less y-o-y.
