Brazil’s domestic steel demand improves, production remains subdued
Brazilian domestic steel demand improved 29.6% on-month in June amid the economic downturn resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, according to data issued by local steelmakers’ association Instituto Aço Brasil (IAB).
Apparent consumption rose by 29.4% and exports were up by 14.5% (see separate story). Crude steel production in June, however, fell -5% compared to May, and ten of 32 blast furnaces in Brazil remain halted, IAB confirms.
