Production halt hampers BMZ finances, EAF being repaired
Byelorussian Steel Works (BMZ) has suffered financial losses from stopping electric arc furnaces at the plant during August due to the social unrest seen in Belarus after the presidential election. So said Belarussian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Nazarov on state television.
Losses amounted to about BYN 1.5 million ($560,000), Kallanish notes. This follows media reports in mid-August that all three EAFs were halted.
