Middle East bucks declining apparent steel use trend

Despite the global trend in 2022, apparent steel use (ASU) in the Middle East (ME) increased by 2.6% on-year to 51.3 million tonnes. Globally, ASU registered a 4.2% decline to 1.76 billion tonnes, Kallanish notes. Globally, the building and infrastructure sector had a 52% share in 2022 ASU, mechanical equipment 16% and automotive 12%.
