African countries post crude steel output growth
The combined crude steel production of the six African countries reporting to worldsteel increased 5.7% on-month and 1.1% on-year in March to 1.85 million tonnes. Output in the first quarter reached 5.59mt, up 8.3% on-year, Kallanish notes.
The continent's leading steel producer, Egypt, saw output grow 3.6% on-month and 5.1% on-year in March to 870,200t, with Q1 production rising 14.7% to 2.69mt, according to worldsteel data.
