Ural Steel boosts coke ops for self-sufficiency, and to make more pig iron
Ural Steel, part of Russia’s Metalloinvest has launched coke battery No 6, which will enable the plant to produce roughly 690,000 tonnes/year of high-grade coke. This will meet Ural Steel’s captive blast furnace (BF) requirements so that it no longer has to buy coke from third-party suppliers, even when producing more pig iron than before, says Metalloinvest.
