Italy's AST continues to cut costs, unions say
Less than two months after ThyssenKrupp and union representatives reached an agreement on manning (see Kallanish, 3 December), the situation at Acciai Speciali Terni (AST) is still difficult, Kallanish understands. According to local union sources, the steelmaker is currently trying to reduce expenses whilst aiming to keep its full workforce. It is doing so by asking for a discount, said to be 20%, for work done by external contractors working at Terni.
