Sichuan set to limit crude steel capacity to 36 mt/y
China’s south-western province of Sichuan will limit its steelmaking capacity to 36 million tonnes/year, according to a plan to meet energy efficiency and pollution standards published this week. Although local authorities are being pressured to release such plans, it remains to be seen what the full impact will be, especially as current capacity is below 36m t/y, Kallanish notes.
