Shangang pivots away from steel
Eastern China’s Shandong Iron and Steel (Shangang) plans to divert 10,000 of its workers away from the steel industry and into other, more profitable, sectors over the next three years, Chinese media report. The move marks another humiliation for a company which was set up with the express purpose of consolidating the steel industry of Shandong province. It had failed however to either consolidate or profit in that sector, Kallanish notes.
