NSSMC and Glencore extend Australian coal venture
Japan’s Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) and Swiss-headquartered trader Glencore will extend the life of their 11 million tonnes/year Bulga Joint Venture coal project in an A$704 million ($595 million) investment, NSSMC says. A new open cut and a new underground mining area will be developed to replace the existing areas when they reach their end of life in 2017, Kallanish notes.
