Korean steel imports fall on weak demand
South Korea imported 1.84 million tonnes of steel products in April, down -8.5% year-on-year, according to the Korea Iron and Steel Association (Kosa). Weak domestic demand and growing inventories have reduced buying despite increasingly competitive international prices, Kallanish notes.
Korea imported 7.4mt of steel over January-April, down -3.8% y-o-y. Imports from China fell -1.4% over the period, while imports from Japan were down -9.8%.
