Japanese steel output weakens in June
Japan produced 8.57 million tonnes of crude steel and 7.63mt of hot rolled steel in June, down -6.2% and -5.7% year-on-year respectively, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (Jisf). Weak output in the June quarter had been widely announced as mills targeted lower domestic steel inventories, weaker than expected demand may mean low output continues longer than planned however, Kallanish notes.
