Japanese steel demand weak in April but exports grow
Japanese mills received orders for 6.09 million tonnes of finished steel in April, up from 5.94mt in March but still down -1.1% year-on-year, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (Jisf). The increase came largely from a jump in exports, although shipbuilding also remained strong and automotive demand was better than expected, Kallanish notes.
