Japanese steel demand rebounds in June but remains weak
Japanese domestic ordinary steel demand rebounded 6.9% month-on-month in June but remained down -4.1% year-on-year at 3.62 million tonnes, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (Jisf). The mild recovery will be welcome news to the country’s steelmakers, which have been struggling to force down inventory levels despite growing export volumes, Kallanish notes.
