Japanese crude steel production starts year down
Japan produced 8.4 million tonnes of crude steel in April, down -6.1% year-on-year, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (Jisf). Japan’s dominant steelmaker, Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC), has already said it is reducing output sharply in the current quarter in order to allow steel market inventories to decline, Kallanish notes.
