Ilyich Iron & Steel completes BF revamp to cut energy consumption
Ukraine’s Ilyich Iron & Steel Works has completed the $33 million overhaul of its blast furnace No.5 and commissioned a new $21m casting crane, Kallanish learns from parent company Metinvest.
The BF had around 5,000 tonnes of its refractory lining replaced during the upgrade. This will allow for heats up to 25 deg. C higher than previously, thus reducing gas consumption per tonne of pig iron produced.
