Steel prices fall in China but iron ore holds

Chinese steel futures prices continued their steady decline on Wednesday as sentiment remained weak. Iron ore prices appeared relatively steady however and stable iron ore production suggested the market may not be as weak as feared, Kallanish notes. The October rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed down Yuan 31/tonne at Yuan 2,453/t ($398/t), while the May contract for hot rolled coil lost Yuan 36/t over the day to close at Yuan 2,498/t. …
