Bluescope plans cost cuts to keep Port Kembla competitive
Australia’s BlueScope Steel is looking to cut costs at its 2.6 million tonnes/year Port Kembla steelworks in order to keep the mill competitive, it says. The company denies reports suggesting it has decided to close the plant, Kallanish notes.
Unions at the plant warned that the company’s comments could precede job losses and the closure of the works but BlueScope says it is only reviewing the competitiveness of the plant on a regular basis.
