In addition to gaining more awareness around electric vehicles, customers in the UK can also enjoy a number of discounts on new cars as part of the 5th World EV Day movement.

Online car-changing marketplace Carwow said Monday that participating retailers are offering savings of up to £10,000 ($13,087) on new electric cars from brands including Citroen, MG and BYD in the UK. Some are available in stock, others can be built to a certain specification for later delivery.

The platform identifies the Dacia Spring BEV as the cheapest new BEV on sale, currently available for under £15,000 with a saving of up to £980. Other options include the Citroen eC-3 at under £22,000 with a discount of £1,870, and the BYD Dolphin at under £26,200 with a saving of £2,630.

Yet, more aggressive discounts are coming from Peugeot, Renault and MG, Kallanish learns. The Peugeot e-2008 small electric SUV is priced at less than £25,000 with up to £10,760 in savings.

British brand MG, which is owned by Chinese carmaker SAIC, is offering a discount of up to £9,000 on its MG4 BEV, priced at under £20,000. Meanwhile, the family car Renault Megane is £7,850 cheaper at less than £27,000.

Carwow says it has become an increasingly important partner for the automotive industry, offering a “one-stop shop” method to users. The ongoing promotion, also part of the September sale, has several other new and used EV models at discounted prices.

As demand for EVs slowdown across the globe, carmakers are joining the World EV Day event to boost awareness and sales. As a partner in the movement, Hyundai Motor UK announced its largest EV test drive event on 11-20 September.

Nissan Europe chose the day (9 September) to debut its high-performance Ariya Nismo, set to enter sales in the region in January 2025. The all-electric crossover features an 87-kilowatt-hour battery and offers 320 kilowatts of power and a 600 Newton-metre torque.

Premium BEV brand Polestar has highlighted five positive trends in the EV industry this year and says that “it’s clear that the electric vehicle industry is on a thrilling trajectory.” Trends including advances in battery technology, integration of advanced AI and connectivity features in EVs, and the surge in EV-only manufacturing are “all signs of a vibrant and promising future. All we need to do now is keep driving in the right direction,” it adds.

The UK automotive trade body SMMT expects EV sales to rise in September, a typically busy month due to a change of number plate in the country.

The World EV Day movement was celebrated on 9 September.
