Stellantis unveils large-vehicle platform eyeing North American expansion
European carmaker Stellantis unveiled on Friday a new all-electric vehicle platform for a range of large vehicles in the D and E segments, Kallanish reports.
The so-called STLA Large platform is deemed to be the most flexible BEV-native platform in the industry, available in 400-volt and 800-volt BEV architectures. The sedans to be built on the platform will feature a range of up to 800 kilometres (550 miles) with battery pack energy ratings varying from 85 to 118 kilowatt-hours.
The BEVs are planned to have a charging efficiency of 4.5 kWh per minute and deliver a 0-100 km/hour acceleration in 2 seconds.
The Stellantis Group will use the platform to launch eight vehicles by 2026, through five brands. This will start in the North American market with Dodge and Jeep, with Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Maserati to follow. While specific product announcements will begin later this year, the upcoming products will cover a full spectrum of vehicle types, from cars to crossovers to SUVs.
“Creating a family of vehicles from a well-engineered set of components that is flexible enough to cover multiple vehicle types and propulsions, overperforming any of our current products, will address each of our iconic brands’ customers,” comments Stellantis ceo Carlos Tavares. “The flexibility and agility of this platform is its hallmark and will be a driving force for our success in the shift to electrification in North America.”
However, it’s unclear whether the planned eight models will all be BEVs, given the platform also supports hybrid and internal combustion propulsion systems. Stellantis did not reply to a request for comment.
