Samsung SDI starts construction of second gigafactory in Malaysia
South Korean battery manufacturer Samsung SDI has broken ground on its second gigafactory in Malaysia to produce cylindrical batteries, Kallanish reports.
Plant 2 is planned to start mass production of the PRiMX 21700 (21x70 mm) batteries in 2024, in the Seremban district. Samsung SDI committed to investing KRW 1.7 trillion ($1.29 billion) in the project, in line with its strategy to meet growing demand.
