Rivian chooses Samsung SDI as battery cell provider
US electric vehicle start-up Rivian said Monday it has picked South Korea’s Samsung SDI as its battery cell supplier, Kallanish reports.
The company, which has raised $8 billion since 2019, is backed by investors such as Ford and Amazon. It plans to start manufacturing its launch vehicles R1T and R1S at its Normal, Illinois, plant this year. First deliveries are slated to begin “in summer 2021.”
