Rivian chooses Samsung SDI as battery cell provider

US electric vehicle start-up Rivian said Monday it has picked South Korea’s Samsung SDI as its battery cell supplier, Kallanish reports. The company, which has raised $8 billion since 2019, is backed by investors such as Ford and Amazon. It plans to start manufacturing its launch vehicles R1T and R1S at its Normal, Illinois, plant this year.
