RARE EARTH: Defense awards $35m to MP Materials for HREE plant
Nevada-based MP Materials Corp is getting a $35 million grant from the US Department of Defense to design and build a facility to process heavy rare earth elements (HREEs) into magnets for military and civilian use, Kallanish reports.
The project at the company’s Mountain Pass production site in California will establish the first processing and separation facility of its kind for HREEs in support of defense and commercial applications in the United States.
