Panama, First Quantum Minerals reach settlement on copper mine contract
The government of Panama and Ontario-based First Quantum Minerals say they have finalised a 20-year agreement on operating the giant Cobre Panama copper-gold mine, Kallanish reports.
The country says it expects to get $375 million/year, plus an additional $20m to cover taxes and royalties up to year-end 2022. The $375m minimum payment will start in 2023 and be composed of corporate taxes, withholding taxes and a profit-based mineral royalty of 12-16% with downside…
