Nornickel inks new icebreaker deal to increase export routes
Russian miner Nornickel has signed a long-term charter contract for a new nuclear-powered icebreaker from Atomflot, part of state nuclear company Rosatom, Kallanish reports.
According to Nornickel, the new contract has an unprecedented duration. The so-called Project 22220 icebreaker will escort vessels navigating the Northern Sea Route in the interest of Nornickel for a period through 2041, and extendible through 2051.
