Arizona-based Nikola Corp says it has named Michael Lohscheller as the new president of Nikola Motor, Kallanish reports.

He is the former ceo of Opel Motors under both GM and Stellantis and was most recently the global ceo of VinFast Vietnam. He also had leadership roles in finance, technology, purchasing and logistics at Volkswagen before becoming Volkswagen Group of America executive vice president. He was also executive vice president and chief financial officer at Mitsubishi Motors Europe.

He will report to ceo Mark Russell and will be responsible for scaling Nikola’s global zero-emissions truck business.

“His role will be immediately pivotal as the Nikola Tre BEV moves into production and as we continue to achieve development milestones for the Nikoka Tre FCEV,” Russell says.

Lohscheller graduated from Osnabruck University of Applied Sciences in Germany and the University of Barcelona in Spain. He earned a master’s degree from Brunel University London.

“It goes without saying that hydrogen fuel cell and battery-electric zero-emission vehicles are the future of mobility, and I am extremely proud to be joining a company that is paving the way for this global transformation,” he says in a statement.

Russell had been serving as company president and ceo.
