Gotion, CATL accused of forced labour by US lawmakers
A group of Republican lawmakers have called for a ban on US imports of batteries from Gotion High-tech and CATL over alleged forced labour.
The two Chinese companies are leading battery manufacturers, and in the US have ties with carmakers Volkswagen and Ford. Volkswagen is a major investor in Gotion, having purchased a 26% stake in 2021, while CATL plans to help Ford build a $3.5 billion gigafactory in Michigan.
