COPPER: Freeport quits Indonesia copper smelter project with Tsingshan
PT Freeport Indonesia, the local Indonesian company of US mining giant Freeport McMoRan, said last week that it would not continue its plan to build a new copper smelter with China's Tsingshan Group, Kallanish notes.
''We could not reach an agreement,'' Freeport Indonesia's spokesman Riza Pratama said. In the past few months, Freeport Indonesia and China's Tsingshan tried to build a new copper smelter worth $2.8 billion.
