COPPER: Chile's Codelco expands the Salvador unit
Chile’s state-owned copper company, Codelco, has approved an investment plan to develop one of its production units in the Atacama region, Kallanish learns from the miner.
The Rajo Inca project plans to convert the Salvador division from an underground to an open pit mine. The new structural project is expected to increase Codelco’s copper production from current 60,000 tonnes/year to near 90,000 t/y as from the first half in 2023.
