Chile miners face the world’s highest energy costs: Morel
Chile, the world’s largest producer of copper and home to the biggest lithium deposits, has the highest energy costs among other mining countries, says a trade body.
According to José Tomás Morel, studies manager at Consejo Minero, miners in the South American country saw energy costs averaging $104/megawatt hour (MWh) in 2019, compared to a global average of $76/MWh.
