Chile’s coffers hit by lower lithium prices
The Chilean government has been hit by an 87% decline in quarterly payments from SQM and Albemarle due to a drop in lithium prices, despite higher sales volumes.
Corfo, Chile’s economic development agency, received $135 million for the lease of mining properties in the first quarter of 2024, down from $1 billion in the same period last year. SQM and Albemarle paid $94m and $41m respectively, Kallanish understands.
