Air Liquide will accelerate its low-carbon hydrogen output by investing €8 billion ($9.4 billion) in its hydrogen supply chain. The objective is to boost its total electrolysis capacity to 3 gigawatts by 2030, Kallanish notes.

The company has laid out its environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy announcing it is targeting carbon neutrality by 2050. Hydrogen development will be fast-tracked “to at least triple its turnover in order to reach more than €6 billion by 2035.” Output through electrolysis and from renewable raw materials such as biomethane will also be increased.

Air Liquide adds in a note that it will start the decarbonisation process by cutting its emissions in steps by 2025 and 2035 using carbon-capture technology. The path to decarbonisation also includes helping customers reducing their carbon footprint by offering “a broad range of low-carbon solutions…This includes low-carbon gases offering, accompanying customers in industrial process transformation, recognized carbon capture expertise, as well as an asset takeover strategy with an objective to decarbonise them,” Air Liquide concludes.
